Differential speed sensor ring

I'm going to replace my diff. carrier but I was told that I cannot reuse the anti lock speed sensor ring. I can't find one on the internet. Is this a dealer item only?

Ford doesn't recommend reusing them, but I have. If you can't get it from NAPA, then it's dealer-only. Have you checked the online dealers? I'm sure some of the vendors here are authorized, but the ones I know of are:

Yeah, I've been looking on-line for several days, including the links that you sent. Can't find anything. Must be dealer only.

I've reused mine through two rebuilds with no problems to date.

If you're really worried about it just buy a new one. I can't cost all that much, although it is probably special order. IIRC, to change that thing out would mean that the whole rearend would have to be setup again, because the ring gear has to be removed to get to it. I could be wrong though. It may be worth it just to go ahead and replace it.

Hey there Pazzo. I put a truetrac in to replace my open diff, and i reused the speedo sense ring. Yes it does go behind the ring gear. I have'nt had any kind of problems with mine.
I've never heard that you cant re-use the thing. Maybee if it was missing the pickup teeth or warped that would be a dead giveaway to purchase a new one. or if you damage it somehow on the rebuild
Hope this helps you out.

Yep. You're wrong.

The tone ring can be removed/installed without messing with the ring gear, and even though the carrier has to come out of the axle, you don't have to reset the gear mesh since you're putting the same gears back with the same shims.

Can you explain how you remove the ABS gear without touching the ring gear? It's been almost a year since I had mine taken apart, but I thought the ABS gear went between the ring gear and the flange on the carrier that the ring gear bolts to. Perhaps you have a diagram?

... Maybe a different rear end..my 07 has the ABS ring sandwiched between the ring gear and the carrier. (3.73 w/tru-trac)

Sam, please check the posting dates...........

Hillbilly, please post in the pre-97 forum instead of bringing up a 5 year old thread that doesn't apply to a 1994.
