Welcome, TGB,

Ford already offers a traction control system. It's called Traction-Lok. Other manufacturers use a similar method called Posi-traction.

I can't tell you exactly how it works, but I can tell you it does work, I have it in my '98. If one wheel starts to slip, the other one will get the power applied to it, thereby increasing traction. Without it, just one wheel would spin if it loses traction. This is available mostly on rear-wheel drive trucks and cars. Front wheel drive cars use a different method of traction control (the car applies the brakes to only the wheel that is spinning.)

Question Traction Control

I have been looking at new trucks and have decided on the F150 4x4. Does anyone know if Ford will be introducing some type of traction control for the F150's. I want a system that can operate on non slippery surfaces.

TBG. Are you talking about the kind of traction control that controls throttle and brakes when it senses wheel slip?

He may be talking about the automatic 4 wheel drive system used in Expeditions and Navigators. They detect rear wheel spin and transfer power to the front wheels "automatically".

Thanks for the replies, When I say traction control I am talking about all wheel drive. A system that will allow me to to drive down a dry stretch of pavement hit a patch of ice or a snowdrift and have traction from the front or the rear tires, diverting traction from the tires that slip to the tires that grip. Similar to the all wheel drive system on a subaru.
