Front axle seep

I have noticed that my front axle on 4x4 F150 is seeping on passenger side, I guess where the seal is. If oil was to all leak out, does this affect anything with my 2 wheel drive, or just if I shift into 4 wheel? Also, I assume this oil in front axle is part of the front differential? How do I check the level to see how much I am losing.

The gear oil could make its way on to the rotor and brake pad. If you can't take care of it I would have it fixed soon.

How would it make its way all the way from the differential to the brakes?
