F250 with 3.73 gears

Will moving to 4.10 gears help me with towing? I only use my F250 to tow and I am towing a 30 foot trailer and with a 5.4L engine and I am wondering if its worth it to raise the gears to get more power.

Thanks

P

Yes, but to really make it worth it go even lower - like 4.56's.

If I change to 4.56, will I need to purchase new tires and change out the speedo?

I dont think you need to get new tires I had a buddy that had 4.56's on stock tires and it was great.

You will not need to get a new speedometer but you will need to get a recalibration for the different gear ratio.

Gears are cheap but installing them is labor intensive, requires specialized tools and training.

Besides higher RPMs at the same speed and impacted gas mileage, what are the other ramifications of going to higher gears?

Talking

The shop said not to bother with gears unless you go two sizes shorter like glc said.I went from 355 to 410 on 30" wheels and love it.The speedo can be changed with a tunner on some trucks and others like mine need a new speedo gear which costs around $25 and 1/2 hour labour.373 to 456 will put the speedo out by roughly 18%.My truck wants to go into OD at 35 mph so get used to locking it out as soon as you start the truck so you don't bang it around in the city.City mpg went up about 3 mpg.Have not checked mpg on the highway.I now need to get a true-track as the a$$ end is all over the place when it rains with the open diff.Gears are the biggest bang for the buck and if you don't like it bigger tires can get you back to stock. The speed limiter will be lowerd but not enought to notice unless your being chased by the police. This can also be fixed with a tunner if you like a good chase once in a while.I don't
cheers
