MPG/Gearing

Since i put on my 6" Susp. Lift i have noticed my MPG has dropped so much its not even funny. I used to be able to get about 260 miles before i would fill up (not empty) and now im getting about 160 give or take a little.

I know i need to regear soemtime but my question would be: Would regearing help with this MPG problem, or would it be better to get new exhaust/cai/tuner ....Im not going to put those all in at one time just wanting to know

Thx ahead!!

Negative. Would that cause my gas tank to be off or no?? Or would it just say that my miles are less since i have bigger tires on it? Does any shops recalibrate your stuff for free or do they usually charge an amount??

Thx

Absolutely. Bigger tires makes for less rotations to maintain speed.

Fix the speedometer and odometer to account for your MPG. You will still probably be getting worse MPG than stock, but when you lift and already un-aerodynamic vehicle and increase the air drag along with heavier tires you kinda saw that coming right?

Dealers can do it for you but it depends on your truck year. My advice, save a few hundred dollars and pick out a nice tuner. It will fix your problem and maybe increase your MPG.

Gears will work wonders as well from what I hear.

Hey man, my gas dropped from 14mpg to 10.6-11 with these 37s i put a exaust on my truck when it was stock and it went from 12.6-13.8, and a intake will help some, but im getting my gears friday and ill see how it effects my gas and let you know.

Yes!!
I am running 35's and i have Troyer custom tuning, true duel exhaust, AF1 intake and i still need gears!! The tuner will fix the speedo problem but your best investment will be new gears. Like i said in another thread my gas mileage is currently not very good. Even if the tuner did fix the gas problem enough to be exceptable to you it will still have no nutz until you re-gear!!
I think you have 35 inch tires also with the 5.4?? If so go with 4.56 gears.
If you can't afford to do both the front and rear gears at the same time just do the rear for now. If you do that you can NOT use 4x4 until both are done.

Just a quick note on the speedo recalibration thing. I have a 4" Rancho on my 05 Screw with BFG 305/65/18 (34in tires) and my speedo is off by about 3mph. Took it to the dealer and spent $100 to have them tell me that they maxed out the aspect ratio for the tires and I'm STILL 3mph off. Waste of time and money. So, right now I just live with it and am waiting for my Troyer custom tunes to arrive which should fix that problem.
