Best way to get better gas mileage
#5
I have a 97 with a 4.6. I have 265/75 tires and I went from a 3.55 gear to a 4.10 and it helped my highway mileage from 14 to 15.6 running 70. If your geared to high, your motor is lugging and using more fuel and you have no power in overdrive. If your geared to low, your turning to many RPM's and using more fuel. You have to find the happy median. I like a motor to turn about 2100-2200 rpms at 70 mph. That way you have enough power to make it up hills in overdrive, but not turn too many RPM's
