Switching fuel tank to 35.7 gallon

I have a 2006 F150 Supercab, 6.5' bed with the 27 gallon fuel tank. I see that a 35.7 gallon tank was offered on this body style and is compatible with my cab/bed configuration (or at least it is on the Ford wbsite when you build your own). I want to know what would be required in order to swap my 27 gallon tank for the larger one?

I would enjoy the longer range of the 35.7 gallon tank, and don't mind the extra cost at fillup time... I just want to be at or near the 400 mile per tank mark (w/o running it down to almost empty).

1st- Is this tank possible on my truck?
2nd- What is needed for the swap?
3rd- Where can I find the parts (I think OEM from the stealership is likely my best bet)

You'll have get a new tank, tank straps, and a new fuel pump for starters. There may be more misc. items also.

Yes it would work

New tank, new straps, new filler neck, new sending unit, new anything required for gas (pump, hoses, wires, etc)

Yup, I think the lame *** stealership would be your best bet. Not many of these showing up in wrecker yards yet ! (I know I am waiting for a nice 9.75 rear to be laying around)

Let me know how the install goes.

You don't have a 9.75"? What do you have?

Yeah, it looks like it might end up being more trouble than it's worth.

Dude, I have the little 4.6. Comes with the pitiful 8.8 rear end (why ? i don't have the slightest clue)

It would be nicer to have the beefier rear. I think that will become a "down the road" project tho. I bought a set of gear and detroit for the setup I have right now. Had a guy offer me $300 over what i payed for them (not installed yet) so i think I may sell what I have, buy more of my Samurai stuff, then look around for a bigger rear end, then do the gear swap. Just a thought I have been tossin around lately.

And yes, it would be way more trouble, unless you had one just laying around. Just get a Jerry Can, and fab up a holder for it. They carry and extra 5 gallon each.

I already have 1/2 dozen 5 gallon gas containers (some pre-mixed with 2-smoke oil, and some running straight 102 octane unleaded).

I might build a toolbox, transfer tank combo, or just have a hand pump setup on the auxillary tank.

I love the 36 gallon tank. Just have to swipe your card twice at the pump

Does anyone remember those F150s with 2 tanks, 2 gas doors, and a flip switch?

I remember Chevys that were that way as well. My Uncle's 1986 Chevy 3500 had a tank on each side of the truck. At least Ford was smart enough to put the fillers on the same side.

Yup, my old 84 Chevy had dual tanks, (2-20 gallon) which came in handy, seeing as how I got about 4 mpg's !
