Any one heard of 8 clutches in the LS instead of 6..??

Is this a better LS setup if it has 8 clutches and the 7/8 pin in it instead of 6 clutches and a smaller pin? looking to buy this and it has new bearings and been rebuilt. Is this right ? rigged? Any thoughts??

Haven't heard, but a tighter pack will be more likely to stay "Locked" when the fluid is cold and when doing parking lot manuevers.

Some guy on ebay was selling it as "heavy duty version" of the 8.8 LS 31 spline 7/8 over vs. stock. I guess there was no "heavy duty version " put out by ford. I think he just rebuilt it with added clutches and making a claim...better than factory 6 he claimed. I turned it down but wondered....

That's really a good price (they are about $250 wholesale new from Ford), although I didn't see shipping. The 31 spline truck traction-lock is a great upgrade for Mustangs. I know guys running low 9's in full weight cars with the stock truck diff with restacked clutches. When I pull the diff out of my truck to change the pinion bearings, I'll restack mine according to the article above.

So, this was never a FORD option on a 8.8 31 to increase durability just someone knowing a trick of the trade so to speak and adding a couple clutches for traction happy people. Maybe I should of bought it then! oh well, still looking for my LS to change out my open D.

There are two different diameters of cross pin. You also need to figure out how the ABS speed sensor ring is attached to the diff. I newer diffs have step machined into them for the ring. Older diffs may not accept the ABS ring.
