Replace entire powertrain 2000 F150 4x4

Just got given a 2000 F150 4x4 with a shot transmission. Truck has over 220,000 miles, but everything works perfectly except the transmission, and the body is cherry. Figured since I have no costs in yet, and was going to have the transmission changed, I"d change the whole powertrain. Found a salvage 2000 Expedition with only 52,000 miles and same 4.7 L Triton. Is this a simple swap?

It will be simple if your truck has a 4.6 also. If your truck has a 5.4 some ECM changes will have to be made but no big deal. I would go for it.

Thanks. Sorry, typo error. Engine is 4.6L. Found retired factory trained Ford mechanic who advised in similar fashion. Looks like I'm on my way to being a F150 driver. Wish me luck.

Got a hold of the service records for the truck, and previous owner serviced every 3,000 miles like clockwork. I might take your advice and save the engine in the Expedition and just swap the tranny. Never had a Ford before, but definitely will test this one out for reliability.

The Expedition Transfer case is an All wheel drive transfer case. Your F-150 is not. Do not use the Expedition T-case. You may also discover that the Expedition has an 4R100 transmission, your F-150 has a 4R70W transmission. When did your retired factory trained Ford mechanic retire?

Regards

Thank you JMC. I seemed to be going round and round on this. Going to change the tranny and let everything else go until it suts down.
