Trouble starting

If you turn the ignition key and the starter turns(cranks) the engine, then disengages properly, the starter has done its job. Having said that, modern gas engines need SPARK, FUEL, COMPRESSION, and TIMING to start, idle, and drive/run properly. This is what I keep in mind when trying to distinguish no start, rough start, driveability compaints. You didn't mention the year of your truck. Is there a check engine light? Is it on? If no check engine light on, codes may be stored that can point you to a specific item on the truck that is measuring(reading) out of range, or not measuring at all. Remember, a code doesn't automaticly mean the part is "bad," it means it needs to be tested.
Now to give it a WILD guess: I would say your problem is likely to be either in the secondary ignition system or the fuel system or a little of both. If its an older truck, I would even check timing just to be certain its right. Good Luck. - B1/2
