4.10's and Fuel Mileage
#16
Thanks guys, I can't wait...I just wish I could tackle this one myself...I hate paying someone to do something half as well as I would, if I had the proper tools. I think going from 3.55 open to 4.10 l/s will be quite the experience, esp. with these heavy wheels / tires and the short-throw 5-speed goodness. ManualF150, are you running the Hurst unit? Reason I ask, Hurst told me that they (B&M) are going to discontinue it. Makes me want to pickup a second one just in case.

Up to 03, it was standard on the 4.2 and 4.6. In 04, I think it was only available on the Heritage 4.2, don't know about the 4.6, but I know it was not available on the NBS. I believe in 05 they put it back in the 4.2 standard cab 4x2 only.
I can take off easily in 2nd with mine with 3.55's.

35's and 3.73's are fine. several members have gone as far as to run 37's on 3.73, Josiah, Thumper, etc. if you have 3.73's and still want to regear, i would go w/ at least a 4.56. they don't make a 4.30 ratio for both axles, which would be ideal. 4.10's would only be a marginal upgrade, and not worth the hassle/ expense. i have 3.55's, and am looking at 4.56's. 4.10's would get me back to the stock 3.73, however, I tend to have a desire for more power, and have decided to go w/ the 4.56's. my mileage certainly can't get much worse, at 10-11mpg in a 5.4 LS 4x4 w/ stock tune, full exhaust, and a lead foot.
