CV axles on a 2003 f150

I tore the inner boots on my truck, so instead of paying 34-40$ for the boot kit i thought i would just pay the extra $30 each side, and get all new axles from advanced auto parts. (my truck has 73000 miles anyway) I noticed when i put the new axles in when the truck was up on the jack still, that the wheel would not turn because of the axles binding up! (stock ones did not) has anyone else had this problem? or has anyone put different brand axles in with no problem?
thanks David.

reman cv joints are garbage. you should have repacked the oem ones with grease, and put a new boot on.

think of it this way, the oem cv axles cost $280 for a reason. aftermarket units typically contain weaker cages, and fewer ball bearings.

try going to http://www.bobutterfordparts.com

they are located in TX, and sell brand new oem parts at wholesale.

otherwise, i would rebuild your oem axles. i rebuilt both of mine when the boots tore, its messy but not too bad.

while the axle physically turns in 2WD, power is only applied in 4WD. your oem axles are much stronger than the ones you bought. about the only ones you could get that would be stronger would be custom-built ones.

Your replacement axles are either defective or the wrong ones for the vehicle. A quality reman should work okay.

If the cage in the joint is put in backwards at the factory it will cause binding. I returned 2 axles before I gave up and rebuilt my Ford one.
