Should I regear?

I have a 2006 f150 5.4l 4x4 automatic. Mods: airaid cai, magnaflow cat back, 2 inch leveling kit, gryphon programmer (87 custom tow tune on order), 33.7 inch tires, 3.73 gears. The truck is used for both city and highway driving and towing a two horse trailer. Will this custom tune be enough or should I regear? If I need to regear should I get 4.10 or 4.56 gears.
Thanks

plan on going any bigger?

really you dont NEED to but it would help.

and the charges for 3.73 - 4.10's isnt worth it really wont notice the difference.

id really consider 4.56's if you decide to regear

With 33's to get your truck back to stock overall ratio you'll need 4.10's. But if you want a bit more grunt i would go with atleast 4.30's, or even 4.56's.

Thanks for the replies. I will check into the cost of 4.56 gears.

Make sure that you go with a good brand. I would suggest Yukon or Ford Racing.

please update with your research results.

I have been thinking of regearing to 4.56 (from 3.73) 35" MK2's

and am curious what an average "overall" price is going to look like

thanks.

$300 per axle minimum for the gears, $100-$200 for each install kit, about $100 for 2 round of gear lube (break in then permanent fluid),and around $300-$500 per axle for labor.

depending on 4x4 or 4x2, shop time, brands you will be looking at 1k to 1,600 for a 4x4 ring and pinion job.

and while your in there id definitely look at replacing or adding a Limited slip or locker.

Just FYI, but the guy at 4 wheel parts told me that the new G2 gears are made by the OEM manufacture in most cases, and include a no questions asked lifetime warranty against defects, failures, and get this...noise. I don't know if it's true or not, that's just what he told me...

4 Wheel Parts also sells a package deal for our trucks for about $500 that includes the ring and pinion for both the front and rear axel along with the install kit (shims, seals, ect.) and then they will charge you about another $900 to install it...

Worth every penny!!! after my lift and tires I drove it for like a year. Then got my gears cuz of the toybox. Paid $1300 for front and back, 3:55 to 4:56. 4 wheel parts was gonna be $1800. Now I think back I wish I had done the gears first...

I am getting 11 mpg in town with my current set up (not towing), and only 13 on the highway. Would changing my gears improve my mpg? I was given a quote of $1200 to change the gears to 4.56, but I am not sure what brand the quote was for. Do they make a 4.30 gear for 4x4s? I am hoping to find a way to get better mpg.

1200 for a 4x4 is a good deal for parts and labor.

NO they dont make a reverse cut 4.30. The 8.8R is reverse cut.

4.56's will DEFINITELY help you out in town and while towing but might cost you a mile or two a gallon on the interstate. But i think its worth it, specially if you are towing frequently or running big tires. Transmissions are expensive to replace and then you have to get gears to ensure that you dont mess up the new transmission

just thought I might get some help while we're on the subject of gears... I've got 3.73 LS right now on my FX4 with a 3" BL and 3" level kit (soon to be replaced with coilovers), running 315/70/r17s, I get like 14.5 - 16.5 mpg most of the time... I don't do a ton of in town, but I like to wheel whenever I can, am I gonna wear out my tranny wheeling with 3.73s? and then there's the occasional seeing if I can beat my buddy of the line at the light... I can really feel it lagging when I do that.
