$1,050

does $1,050 sound like a good price for 4.88 gears installed in a 2002 fx4 w/ 5.4.

8.8r in front
9.75 in rear

you could do it yourself for the price of the parts there's a good write up in the how to section on doing this. all you need is the proper tools and mast stores like napa or o'riley's will lend you the tools if you don't have them.

Thats a good price, I got quoted 1200 for mine and I consider that a good price.

Gears and transmissions are the two things I will not mess with on my daily driver. Now on a trail truck that can sit for a few days if something goes wrong I would probably give it a shot but it is way to technical for me to try on a truck I'm still paying on.

That is a really good price assuming you are getting full install kits and quality gears. I'm getting 4.56 Richmond gears installed in mine in a week or two and the shop is charging me $1800. I don't see how they can charge you only $1050 because parts will be close to $800...they must have a very low labor rate or are getting the parts at a huge discount.

Just satisfy yourself that someone who will do it that cheaply is experienced enough to do it right.

Transfer case has nothing to do with the diffs. other than turning them.
