What rearends do F150's come with

I recently posted a thread on another forum comparing which rearend is stronger between a Ford 8.8" and a Chevy 12 Bolt. One guy said the 12 Bolt, but that he hasn't had a problem with the 8.8" in his F150. I thought F150's came with beefier rearends than a 8.8"? My dad 97 F150's rearend housing looks bigger than any Mustangs 8.8" I've ever seen.

I though that the 9.75 was the standard F150 rearend. I know that L's come with SD rearends and that they are 9.75's, and ofcourse they would be stronger than just a 1/2 ton rearend, but still I didn't think F150 used 8.8's.

Someone else posted this when I asked.

Ford 10.25 can be found in some 2000-2006 f150's

Ford 8.8 can be found in 1983-2006 F150's.

Ford 9.75 can be found in 1997-2006 f150's also

The 8.8 is the most common by a long shot though.
Never heard of a 10.25. It seem like the F150 has almost as many rearend choices as engine choices. What configurations came with the bigger rearends and how to you tell which rearend the truck has other than just being someone who knows by the looks of the housing? Are the same rearend still being used in the F150 after 06? I would assume so.

Here's the thread if y'all are interested.

8.8 = 4.6, 4.2 engines - most common
9.75 = 5.4 engines
10.25 (Sterling) = F250 & up ( F150 ever had this diff? - heavy duty payload package? 10.25 spec / fluid fill is listed in my Owner's manual)

I believe the 10.25 came with the 7700gvw, may also come with the current 8200gvw.

Maybe it came on the 1/2 ton based F250 that came with the 7 lug wheels instead of the 5 lug wheels.?.?

Yeah - with 4.10's too I believe.

There was also a 7700 F150 model w/7-lug wheels ...
