4 wheel engaging on it's own !

My 2010 f150 screw made a strange grinding noise in the front end after hitting a bump. Bad metal on metal sound. Went away on it's own. Now with 1900 mi it did it again yesterday, also started after hitting a bump on drivers side front. This time it lasted long enough for me to get to the dealer and take a mechanic for a ride. He said the four wheel drive is trying to engage on it's own. The vaccum pump which controls the shift, or an electrical problem with the 4x4 system is the problem. Will cover under warranty but have to change the gears out as well as the ends have more then likely been torn up. They will have to keep my truck for at least two days, so I'm guessing they have some serious work to do, or they hafe to wait till it's apart to order parts. I have heard of this problem in the past with other ford products, you think they would know what to order. Anyone else hear of this issue ?

Your truck is telling you that it needs a lift, and mud terrains because it wants to live off road.

Kidding aside, I haven't heard of that on the 2009+ models. Hopefully they will get you fixed up good. Make sure to take photos of the truck before it goes in just incase you have any new scratches or dings.

That shouldn't have anything to do with the actuator engaging. What your describing sounds like a communication error. Its a good thing you have that warranty though. Nice pick on the color choice btw, silver would be my first pick on a new F150 too.

Just had mine replaced. Vacuum switch was failing and engaging the 4 Wheel drive repeatedly. Not expensive.
