Limited Slip Rear Axle Howl
My axle is howling when the power is on and quiets when the power is off. It also quiets down on the expressway over 60 mph.
It is a 98 Lariat 4.6, automatic, 3.73 rear gear with limited slip and 102k miles. I am the original owner and have taken good care of the truck. This the first real problem.
We replaced the U-joints, changed the rear end dope and added the friction modifier. This only helped slightly. There were some fine metal shavings at the bottom of the housing which was cleaned out.
Can anyone advise what is causing the howl? Thanks,
