Post Sore rearend and jingling all the way home

Any ideas: I have noticed lately that at any speed, I'm getting a "jingling" noise every tire revolution. It reminds me of a rock stuck in a tread, but it doesn't "click" like a rock. It has this metallic jingle I can't figure out. Never heard it before. Also, my rearend has seemed to have sprung a leak. It's leaking where the driveshaft, u-joint, etc joins the rearend (facing front of the truck). It looks like it's throwing fluid towards the rear of the truck all over the pumpkin. It doesn't look too bad, but enough for an appointment real soon. Any ideas, thoughts, or same situation stories? By the way, I'm two days old to this group and I love it. I have learned more in two days than I have in all the years inside and out and underneath all my previous vehicles. Thanks in advance.

I have the same thing, a metallic jingling that I can faintly hear when driving down the road. I can't tell where it is coming from. Got under the truck and could not find anything loose or that may be causing this. Took it to a dealer, they could not find the cause (big surprise). It's very annoying, anyone who has had this and found the cause I would like to hear from.

I found a noise that sounds somewhat like you guys are describing. The retainer that covers the front hub nut doesn't fit very well. Ford put some kind of goo inside of this retainer to eliminate this noise but mine wore off. Take your hubcaps off and see if it is loose. If it is it will cause a faint "jingling" noise. Bend it a little out of shape and reinstall. Good luck!

I had a similar problem! I had my wife shut the passenger door hard a few times and found a loose screw and washer near left front wheel well. ??????

kkirt1, Are you talking about the plastic cover over the lug nuts, or is it something else?? Not sure what you're talking about. Thanks, though. It at least gives me a place to start. I haven't (to my knowledge anyway) have had the problem patdon has had. I'm like evrybody else. I feel like I'm doing a pre-race inspection before and after I drive it. I would have seen if something fell off. Anyway, I'll look some more. I hate to take it to the shop because I know I'll get the run-around. Let me know any more thoughts....

That actually sounds like a good idea. After I posted this, I got thinking even more. I have noticed the same type of "noise" when I jump in and out of the bed. It also happens if I shake it back and forth. I thought it might be the mount bushings, but I haven't had the chance to mess with it yet. I have 2 cans of WD-40 in the garage I may have to put to good use tonite. I'll let you guys know what happens...
Any thoughts on the rearend leak?? Anybody else notice what I talked about?? At least it's still under warranty...

My rearend developed a leak in the same place and required a new pinion seal and bearings, it is a pretty easy job to replace just the seal, but if it has leaked enough grease to burn the bearings that is definetly a shop job to replace those. The gear lash has to be reset and requires special equipment to get it just right. By the way I also had the faint rattles like you mentioned and they are gone too after the WD-40

Thanks for the info. I do beleive I'll take it in for that. I don't feel like messing with it, especially if it's under warranty under warranty. If it wasn't, I'd do it myself. As soon as I get home from work, I'm breaking out the juice and spraying the bushings. By the way, are they rubber or poly bushings? I wonder if replacing them with poly ones would work better (if thy're rubber). I've heard good things about them. That's another day, I guess. Thanks...

If you pop off the hub cap you will see a large nut right smack in the center of the wheel. There should be an aluminum piece over this nut that has a cotter pin going through it. If you can wiggle this aluminum piece it may be your noise. Let me know if you still can't find it.

Hopefully it's either that or the bushings. I would say if you can duplicate the sound by jumping up and down in the bed it's probably not what I am talking about. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that all of the bushings are rubber, and I do believe that they can be replaced with an aftermarket polyurethane bushing, I just cant think of the manufacturer. Check out Rancho's website.
Anyway the bushings that I read about claim to improve handling and reduce noise and vibration transmited thru the cab.
You know Helwig might be another source for those bushings.Let me know if you find out anything.

well, I didn't get to check and spray the bushings last nite. The girlfriend sent me on a 45 minute ride to get a pizza. Shoulda taken 10. Wrong directions, go figure. I'll have the long weekend to do it, though. I'll dig through some of my back issue Peterson's and Four Wheeler to see about a poly bushing kit. I have a mess of catalogs I can check, too. I'll le tyou know what I find out. Later and thanks again for the tips fellas.

i had that jingling sound too
kkirt1 is right about the alum. cap
they used to use castle nuts on the spindles
now they use a hex nut with that alum. cap
glue on for cotter pin
im sure its a cost saving thing

Check the retaining bracket or clip for the rear leaf springs. There are 2 for each spring. The bracket has broken loose from the tension of the springs and is sliding along the spring. The noise is similiar to a loose sway bar or tail pipe.

my noise was down to loose front wheels!!!
But the nut recall has been done and they have yet to self loosen.
