Guys who have installed gears, Need your advice!

Hey everyone, so instead of paying someone 600 bucks to install the gears in my 05 f150, im contemplating tackling the job myself with the help of my buddy and his dad who says he knows how to do it..

For the guys who have done this, do you have any advice for me? I ordered complete master install kits for both the front and rear(from Yukon) but what else will I need?

I greatly appreciate the help guys! If I can save the 600 bucks and just buy my buddies dad a 12 pack, And more importantly LEARN how to do this myself, and get the gratification of working on my own rig, I want to do it!

Get or make some setup bearings. They are just carrier bearings with the I'D hogged out so they'll slip on and off the carrier. I don't know of the shims in your axles go between the bearing and the carrier or if they're between the bearings and the housing. If they are between the bearing and the carrier the setup bearings
Will help immensely. Also have a beam or gauge type inch pound wrench. A click type won't be too useful when setting your preloads. Take your time and it's not bad. It's a very precise job but its not rocket science.

Check out where the shims go before you spend anything. I could have used them when we did the gears for my d44, but you're could be different.

For your bearings and shims you should email Wayne at Diffsonly.com

I got mine from him and he HOOKED it up on the cheapest price around.
If you are gonna open it up might as well replace all the beearings.
