Ford 8.8" Rear Axle

Anyone break one??? I have 35's and 4.56 gears, thinking about a locker but afraid of breaking the axle....C-clip and all...

I've split the limited slip carrier and sheared teeth off the pinion. Not a shaft yet though.

It happens.

Ouch....I am hearing mixed reviews about how strong the 8.8" rear is. I am a little leary of installing a locker in fear of breaking the axle shaft due to the C-clips. I am also hearing that I need to weld the tubes to the housing as well...

I grenaded my rearend last year. Carrier assembly was in pieces and gear chunks everywhere. I had the put in yukon 3.90's. they are noisier than stock gears but stronger. Also had them put in a detroit tru-trac for the stronger carrier. Good luck!!

No probs with the tru trac? How many miles have ya got on it?

Around 10k. no problems and the posi action is great.
