Driveshaft @ transfer case question.

My truck has a rear-end cluck sound periodically upon acceration. So I went under to try and manipulate the driveshaft but it is solid tight. When I went up to inspect the shaft at the transfercase I see that the shaft has about two inches that clearly belong in the transfercase. It is polished and abvious that it is a part that spins against something else.

What is going on and what needs to be done?

Thanks much for any help....

I have been thinking. Would that be like that due to play provided for flex?

I am still curious if what I am seeing is supposed to be that way? The clunk was simply the spare tire. Finally something easy!

Driveshaft is normal. That's where it goes in and out during normal suspension travel.
