Question How do gears go?

I was just wondering how the gears go. I am new to the hole gears aspect! I plan on lifting my truck and putting bigger tires on it in the future, but my question is the higher the # the more low end you get and the lower the # the more top end? Please fill a newbie in on this thanks!

the lower the number of the gear, the higher the gear ratio. the higher number, the lower the gear. for example, 4.10's are lower then 3.08's. lower gears (numerically higher) will give you more low end, and higher gears (numerically lower) will give you more top end. if youre getting bigger tires, youre gonna need lower gears. for example, if you have 3.55's right now, a good gear ratio to go with would be 4.10's. i tried to explain it as best as i could without sounding too confusing . hope this helps!
