Question Nasty Whine

I get this nasty sounding whine when I turn my truck in slow speeds (less than 10mph). It has plenty of power sterring fluid, and I was told that it might possilby be the power steering pump. I know nothing about the pump, and was wondering, how do I know when it needs replacing, will my truck begin to whine like it is now? I have 48k on the truck now...Any one experiencing anything like this, any advice appreciated! Thanks

Chuckdawg,
Every Ford vehicle that I've owned has had loud power steering pumps. I've never had to replace one, but have always noticed that they seem to be louder than GM or other manufacturers pumps. Is yours getting louder or have you just noticed the noise? Couldn't hurt to check the fluid level, hoses and/or belts.
