Upgrading rear end?

Hey i have a 2001 2wd f150 that i just wrecked last week and tore the entire wheel assembly off and destroyed the rear end. Im going to have to replace the whole rear end and am wondering if theres any good heavy duty rear ends out there or if i can put a 250 rear end in it. Would the 250 rear end fit?

What rear do you have now - 8.8" (4.2/4.6) or 9.75" (5.4)? The (rare) F-150 7700 package has a 10.25" rear, but it has 7 lugs.

I don't see why you would need to upgrade - even the 8.8" is a pretty tough rear.

Thanks glc, I have the 4.6 so im guessing the 8.8
I was planning on lifting my truck though and to prevent further issues i would rather spend a little extra to get a stronger heard end if possible.

A relatively easy swap would be a 9.75 out of a 5.4 truck of the same year or close to it - just make sure it has the same type of rear brakes. I don't know if the driveshaft has to be modified. If the axle ratio is different, your speedo will be off - same thing if you put bigger tires on it. You should buy a programmer to reprogram it to compensate or it won't run quite right, the engine and transmission also use speed inputs.
