Question Gear Pricing

I was wondering if someone could tell me the cost of changing gears, I see in magazines prices from 250 to 500 and so on. I know this is the Product price, but how myuch does labor cost. I went to the local 4X4 shop a while back, and they said around 2000. (Personally I don't want them touching anything on my truck. Bad Rep.) I was wondering who else does, this, Or can I do it myself. Thanks for any info.

Unless you know what you're doing I wouldn't attempt to chang the gears yourself. As far as the price usually look to spend anywhere from $1200 to the $2000 you found. Though I think that is a little high. Gears are can be hard to put in and are very labor intensive.

My 2 cents worth

If you're gonna stroke it, POWERSTROKE IT!!!

$2000 is too high but $1000-1200 is in the ballbark. I am very proud of doing all the modifications I can to my truck. But this is one not for me. Not my area of expertise, no special tools. I will be doing a search on shops until I am convinced of a good one, preferably recommended.

This are the quotes that I have already for parts:

West Coast Diff. $741
Drivetrain Direct $659.95
Reider Racing $529
4WPW $499.95

Still have to call Randy's Ring and Pinion and those prices does not include shipping.
