Post locking hubs

I have been reading all of the posts on locking hubs. It's not comforting to know that I'm not the only one with hub probs. I have a 1995 F150 with the push button automatic locking hubs. They don't engage and I'm expecting to replace them. Does anyone know how to remove the snap ring which holds the inner aluminum cap? What do I look for to determine if they are shot? How many miles had others had when they went? I only have 29k. Thanks

Thumbs up

Take a small allen wrench, and grind a point on it. Once that is done take a flatblade screwdriver and the allen wrench and try to take the clip out. It takes awhile. Had the same problem on a 95 F-150 with auto-locking hubs.

I had the same problem with my 1990 Bronco, buy a set of Warn Manual hubs from Napa for $60.00, get them the next day, The manuals won't break, they are gauranteed for life, and reliable.
