Question New Gears; What parts do I need?

I'm looking at getting new gears, swaping from the stock 3.55LS to 4.56. My uncle said he would help me do the install to help save the cost of installation. So now I'm trying to find prices of all the parts I need to do the job, but what exactly do I need? Does anyone have a list of the parts needed to do the swap on a '97 F-150 4x4? Also, any comments on brands would be nice. Thanks.

Suggest you read everything here at f150online and at www.ring-pinion.com

The front gears are "reverse cut"- be sure to get the correct ones. On a '97, I'd go ahead and change all the axle bearings while in there. If you have LS, you'll need Ford's friction modifier, too. If you don't have LS, now is a good time to add it.

All together, it cost me about $1200 to have the Expedition done by pros at a local 4x4 shop. The front IFS is a real PITA. It's critical to get the proper alignment (front & rear) for good wear, noiseless operation and strength.

I have been getting quotes for the gears and I can tell you that in Reider Racing I got a hell of an explanation and description on the parts needed to do the job right. And one of the best prices $529.00 plus shipping. I talk to Anthony. I do not know him personally but, called him at 1-800-375-1330 and he will be able to help you.
