Post Converting to Limited-Slip axle

I have a 2001 supercrew with a standard 3.55 rear axle. Does anyone know what it would take to convert this to a limited-slip or positrac? The tag numbers are S942A and 35597050K31

Piece of cake for a good gear-person. You will need limited slip assy.; such as ford p/n: m4204f318, (1) A36 (diff. side cup & cone set). (1) bottle of friction modifier (to add to the new synthetic lube when you refill the diff.) & also will probably need (1) diff. side brg. shim kit. I would strongly reccomend that you have a professional do this job! Some special tools are required to do this job, such as Dial indicator, torque wrench & impact wrench. You might want to check out http://lightruck.com for a distributor that can help you out on changing to L/S. "they should be able to help you with the parts too! If your truck has an 8.8" ring gr. diameter: there are several options for different limited slip assy's. For example: Auburn (my personal preference), OEM ford, Eaton-Posi or US Gear Trac-lok. Other types of No-Spin & Dyneer Products are avail. for the 8.8 ford diff. If your diff. is 9.75" (look at the tag on diff. cover), I think the availability of Limited slip assy. may be very limited.

Powertrax no-slip unit. You can get them at summit racing, national tire, or drivetrain.com. Cost is about $450. No special tools and you can do it yourself. You don't actually remove the gears. Drivetrain.com has the installation instructions if your interested.

what kind of $ does Ford get for the OEM L/S parts? I have the stock 3.55 open rear end myself and want some grip as I go through tires rather frequently :P

Probably around $400.00 & up. If your diff. is 8.8". If your diff. is 9.75", then probably higher.
