Question Help after 4:10's installed

Hi everyone. I hope you had a good turkey. Please were can I get the gear I think I need to correct my speedo after I installed the 4:10's. in my 97 4.6 windsor and a auto trans. 2wdr. Which are great by the way except for a little vibration that feels like the driveshaft starting around 80 85 and staying all the way up past 100 plus. Here in Vegas my Ford Parts guy said that they don't have a 23 tooth gear and that my speedo would need to be calibrated at the dash. I find this unlikely what with the info I,ve been reading here. I would appreciate all the help you guys can give me and I'd to thank you in advance.

Superlift makes a little device that plugs into the harness on the tranny. I think it is around $100 bucks. I see it advertised in magazines all the time.

Found it. Go to www.superlift.com/new.htm and scroll down to new accessory item. You will see the Superlift Tru-Speed calibrator.

Question 4.10 gears

Hey cobrahms9

I have a 01 f150 with a 4.6, I was also thinking of changing my gears to 4.10 because the 3.55 gears I have now just arn`t enough for my truck. Can you give me your opinion on the 4.10 gears, how is acceleration from a stop?, how much did it effect your gas mileage?, and overall how do you like them?. I have a friend that has 3.73 gears in his truck and I can`t tell any difference from my truck to his.
Any information you can give me is appreciated.

Larry.

Hey Speeder

I coulded send you an email. But thanks guys for your info. Speeder the 4:10"s are a mod. that is definately necessary in achieving your maximum performance. You will spin the tires alot easier forsure and by say that you know what it accomplishes. Really alot more responsive especially with my 4.6.

Before you spend too much money use the Yello Pages to find a Speedo Shop in your area. Tell them about your gear change and they will be able to help you.
I had mine speed checked up to 85 mph here for less than $20. They have gears and parts to bring a speedo to an accurate reading.

What's up? Haven't you put the 4:10's in yet? You will like them!
Ok, the speedo gear is on the drivers side tailshaft of the tranny. One little bolt & pull it straight out. Then just slide the SPEEDO SENSOR REDUCTION GEAR straight off as well.
The cost at Ford is about $13.00. they know what you will be looking for, it's 21 teeth compared to your 20 tooth gear. If you have any other questions email me at cobrahms9@cs.com Jim
