Post Gear change and rear end size ??

Ok. So I've got a 97 F150. V6 reg cab, etc(see sig). I got my 33x1250x16's and now my truck is even slower than before. And on top of that, the speedo is off. I want to change my gears because I heard thats the best way to return it to stock. I'm not sure which gears I have now, the 3.08 or the 3.55, and what should I change to 3.73 or 4.10? Also I don't know that size of my rear end (7.5", 8.8", etc) Can anyone help me out with what is on there now, and what I need to put on to get it back to stock or better?! ANy help is appreciated!

Cool

Mav07- If you want to know what gear ratio that you have now, you can look at the axle code on your door (post it/or search previous posts for codes), or you can get the actual code off of the axle tag on one of the cover bolts.

OK. I looked on the door and there were a bunch of numbers and stuff there. So I'm just gonna type it like I saw it!

WB / BRK / INT TR / R / AXLE / TR / SPR
120/ B / CX / 9 / 18 / U / LF

- Yeah, I was thinking they were 3.55, but I saw some posters with 3.08 gears. My truck was basically bone stock when I got it so I figured the gears were 3.08. I have no Idea what size the rear end is though. Can someone with this expertise let me know what all those #'s mean in english??

Axle code of 18 means open differential (not a posi unit) gear ratio of 3.08.

Your truck should have an 8.8" rear diff. For 33" tires, I went with 4.10s to get me close to the stock 3.55s w/ 255/70R16 tires. If you want a little better acceleration, then consider 4.30 or 4.56 gears. Of course, the trade-off will be less economy. To get your speedo correct, you may have to purchase a new plastic gear. They are pretty cheap ~$10.
