Post Wise to order the 7700 GVW to net 3.73 gears?

Hi All,

Has anyone opted for the 7700 GVW in order to get the 3.73 gears? If so, I would like your opinion on this suspension. i.e. ride, ride height etc. I'm about to order an '01 F150 Supercab 4x4 and am planning on upgrading to 285 tires once it gets here. The larger tires combined with 3.73's should equate to a 3.55 ratio. I would appreciate hearing from the experts!

Thanks,

Zach

Not really sure. Might want to check and see what the weight difference is between the two versions. I know the 7700 package has beefier stuff all around (uncluding frame) so it probably weighs more. This extra weight (depending on how much) may negate the 3.73 gear.

However, I think I would get the package anyway, just because you get a heavier duty truck with a lot higher payload capacity for those big loads. Just my opinion though, your wants and needs may differ from me.

My only comparison is between a 97 SC 4x2 P255/70R16 at 35psi and a Y2K 7700 SC 4x4 with LT245/75R16 at 50psi.

The 4x4 rides a bit stiffer than the 4x2 -- but not objectionably. If ride is primary, get a 5600 GVW 4x2 and not the 7700 GVW 4x4 (and it's about a half-mile taller, too).

Zach,

How much extra are you paying for the 7700# truck? With 275 75R 16 tires you will have an effective gear ratio of 3.44:1 as compared to 255 70 R 16 tires with the 3.55.
Get the ordinary truck and change the gears.
IMHO

Guys, I appreciate the replies!

JMC, I am going to do exactly as you described. At the time I posted my question, I was unaware that the 7700 GVW on the F150 nets 7 lug rims. My truck order goes to the dealer today!
