Ever get stuck in 4WL? i have a cheap way to get it out

i have read a lot of post on here of people getting their trucks stuck in some type of 4WD position or cant engage or disengage it.

well it happened to me tonight and all i did was unplugged my battery, reset the computer and it came right out.

It has happened to me before; to get it out of 4L, I put it neutral then dialed in to 2WD - worked fine. I thought I'd have to drive it to the dealer like that.

4Lo

Aren't you supposed to put it in neutral to get it in and out of 4Lo? 4Hi is the one where you can shift on the fly, I thought.

yeah the neutral thing is what is messed up though.
it is supposed to say 4x4 low range. well all it said was low range and i tried everything to get it out.

finally i just disconnected the battery and when i turned it back on it came right out.

i wish i had my manual to look at.
i lost it about 3 months ago.
i just started this thread cause it seemed like a lot of people were getting stuck in 4 lo or some other thing and sending it to the dealership to get it out.

this is the only problem i have had with it so far.
hopefully if it continues to happen i can just keep taking off the battery cable and correct the problem.

I have an easy way to avoid that issue. Buy a manual transfer case! Just shift out of it.

I was always told to place the truck in 4x4 high or 4x4 low range, by first placing the truck in park, foot off the brake. Then shift.

To take it out of 4x4 high or low, place it in neutral, shift the range selector, and then reverse for about 30 feet to disengage the hubs. Read the ford manual and it doesnt mention this, howerver Ive never had any problems.

Btw i have the manual floor 4x4 shifter!
