I have 2000 excab w/ the larger wheels,17", 4x2 sport 5.4, ls.
I am not happy w/ the way that it launches. I know that 3.73 gears would help, any other suggestions? I don't think that ford should have put 3.55 gears on the trucks that had the sport pkg. wheels!

 

Reason why, because they give you better gas mileage, as they turn a lower RPM, and not only that, but if you are into speed, you are suppose to be able to go faster with the 3.55 over the 3.73 gears. Just my two cents.

 

I don't care to go much over a 100mph unless I am in an airplane. My gripe is the amount of time it takes to get there! Gas milage is not a big concern for me. I have another vehicle for a daily driver.

 

Just an opionion, but I wouldn't waste my time with 3.73s replacing 3.55s; you'll see little change. I would do 4.10s. I would have done 4.30s if they made them for the 9.75" rear. There's plenty of top end for either with the overdrive. I have a street car with 4.10s and no overdrive and another with 4.27s (it's even better).

 

max is right on with this one. don't waste time, or money going with the 3.73's. ford should have gone with 4.10's from the factory. Rich
