Thumbs down 4.10's not an option in Ca. on a Supercrew,5.4,4x4, from the dealer.

In Ca. you cannot get a super crew, 5.4 liter,4x4,F350 with 4.10 gears. This is due to epa or emissions standards from what I'm told. You can only get the 3.73 gears in this particular truck. I've heard good things about changing to the 4.10 gears especially on a truck this size. Is this possible with an aftermarket gear set and will I still be able to pass Ca. epa standards? Thanks for your input.

So, are you stuck with buying in CA?

Of the comparisons I've seen, the V10 w/3.73 gears gets about 1mpg less than the 5.4 w/4.10 gears. If you are looking at crew-cab 4x4s, I'd recommend paying that penalty.

Besides, it's going to cost you at least $1500 to get BOTH gears (front & rear) changed to 4.10s. The V10 upgrade is something like $600 and is already CA certified.

Thanks for the info Nomo, as I research my dilema, I am leaning more towards the V-10. It's definetely the more sensible way to go and I'll have plenty of power to spare.
