Red face Need serious help with drivetrain prob...

Ok, i haven't offroaded in a while and thats why this is so freaky...my 97 F150 4x4 is driving sideways. The rear axle seems to be an inch or two farther to the right than my front suspension. The truck seems to veer to the left if the wheel is straight. I thought it might be just a simple steering wheel adjust, but no avail. It happened all in one day and i'm not sure how...a good tire, brakes, suspension shop in town said my rear may have gotten "tweaked"!? I made a little website thingy with pics to help explain...for those of you who know much about rear suspensions, or could give any advice, please go to:

Thanks guys, i really need help on this one...

Try parking with the wheels fairly straight. Then measure from the front edge of the front tire to the front edge of the rear tire on both sides. If they differ an inch or so, you may have sheared a spring bolt & the rear axle has shifted.

Very nice sketches, BBRLFM!
When you do redlariet's test, you probably will find that one rear wheel is either too far forward, or too far back. This is tilting the axle, so the front wheels have to tilt too to get it to go straight (but looking crooked down the road). If you look at the top of the rear axle, right where the spring connects, there is a steel bracket that lines up the spring leaves with the roundness of the axle housing. There is a pin that runs down through the spring to this bracket. If that is sheared, then only the U-bolts clamping force would be holding the axle in the right place on the spring leaves, and the axle will move some. I'd be surprised if its anything other than what redlariet diagnosed. Let us know what you find.

BigBad.....,

There is a recall on the rear single axle 1997 F150 springs. Check out http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/proble...ls/recmmy5.cfm BTW any allignment shop worth its salt will be able to diagnoss the problem.
