New Gear Ratios for 8.8
Just received the March 2002 issue of 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords and on page 60 there is a blurb about Motive Gear bringing out six new gear ratios for the 8.8; one of them is a 3.90.
It says they don't sell direct but, in the back of the same issue there are a couple of ads from companies that are selling.
Seems that a 3.90 would be a better step up from a 3.55 than going to 4.10. Wouldn't be such a large jump in rpm at cruising speed.

I think the gear ratio depends on the tires. I had 265/75-16 with a 3.55. Did not have a problem with this. When I went to 285/75-16 it seemed like I threw out an anchor. I went to 4.10 and it is a little better than the 3.55 with the 265's. I would definitley not go to anything less than the 4.10.

They sell Precision Gears-- the 9.75"ers are $275--installation kits are $160. Installers don't usually post installation labor prices. A good average would be about $300 per axle labor. And ,yes guys, I know it's cheaper on the 8.8". These are 4.10s, you get less choice in 9.75".

Here's more if you like to compare.
