My shifter makes a rattling noise when I'm in and also out of 4x4. When I get the noise out of 4wd it's when I'm WOT, Is this the norm for 4x4's?

I have a 98 ford f-150 5 speed, with the four wheel shifter next to the main shift. I also have the same noise. It is usually in fith gear, and sometimes in fourth. If I put my hand on the shifter it will muffle the noise. It can be pretty damn frustraiting. My dealer told me that it will soon be heard in lower gears. I gues we just have crank up the toons. I have all the problems. The door rust, the crack, the engine light problem, and the rattle in the shifter. Oh I forgot, My door ajar light stays on at times also. Sounds pretty close to a lemon, but damn it looks good.
