They say that you can't get 3.73 gears in a super-crew lariet w/5.4l. The ford website lets me choose this. What's going on? Are they givin me the shaft?

 

Nope actually I think they are trying to give it to you in the rear...

 

Looks like you have to get the 4.6L engine in a 4x4 to get that ratio. The "build a vehicle" area linked from www.fordvehicles.com will not let me select the 5.4L engine and 3.73 gears for any configuration of a Lariat Super Crew.

Everything I've seen in the last couple years said that the only way to get a 3.73 in an F150 from the factory was to get the 7700# Payload package, which only comes with a 5.4 auto, either in 4x2 or 4x4. I think in '99 you could get the 3.73 in an Offroad Package 4x4, but not in a standard 4x4 or any 4x2. And I think that option disappeared in 2000. I'm sure there have been exceptions/flukes to those rules, but according to Ford's specs, those are them. Hope this helps. Later!

I looked in my source book this week and the biggest rear axle you can get in a super crew is a 3.55 L/S

 

helllloooo... these are just gears. Its not like you're asking for Super Duty gears or anything. I know what they say is avalable in the packages, but the dealer has the power to override this when they order the truck. What you have to do is find the dealer sales rep that specializes in fleet trucks to industry and construction. THAT guy will know how to "give you the gears" hee hee hee, no really he will get the 3.73's for you without a hassle.

 

the problem is ford not having a computer program for your truck with the 3:73's as a selection in the stock computer program ,this keeps them from correcting your speedo and giving the computer accurite feedback .I had the same problem with my 2k f-150 4.6 AODE .Then I got a super chips chip and that fixed my speedo cal. etc.
