Question Why a 3.31 rear end in my V-6?

I have a 2002 Charcoal Gray V-6 Scab. When I went online to the Ford site to build my truck, I picked the dark gray and it said I had to have a 3.31 rear end with that particular color...

That is the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Does anyone know why this is?

When I bought my '99, 3.31 was the standard rear end for a V6 with automatic transmission (3.08 was standard for manual, with 3.55 available). Don't know what it would have to do with color though! Maybe the web site has a bug.
