Question Steering wheel sticking/clicking

My steering wheel makes a thumping noise when I turn at a slow speed. Almost as if the something is binding in the column itself or I have loose joints in the wheels. Can someone tell me what it might be? How do you fix it?

I have a 197 f-150 4x4, 4.6l, aotomatic. Mine strated doing the same thing about a month ago. I have 55,000 miles on it. I've been all over it underneath and can't find a thing worng. Had my mechanic check it out. He felt the same thing . WE checked everything in the front end, suspension, steering brakes. You name it, we checked it and can't find anything. I am going to check with my ford dealer this week.
