Question gear questions

HELLO EVERYONE!!! i am new to this club and i was wondering if anyone has went with new gears with the 4.2l . i am thinking of adding a set of 4.30 or even a set of 4.56 and was wondering if the power insrease would be worth the money im tired of gettin whipped up on by the v-8's out there. gas mileage isnt a issue for me i just want the power. (by the way i have stock tires)

Right now you have the 3.55 gears in there right? If so 4.10 or 4.30 will give you better acceleration. Don't go with 4.56 unless you are putting on giant mud tires. With the 4.56 and stock tires you will run at about 3500 rpm at highway speed. And your top speed with be about 80 mph.

Most of the new fords have the 3.55 ratio gears. but to check for sure, look under the truck at your rear axle. Attached by one of the bolts holding the rear pumpkin plate on is a small stamped metal tag with a bunch of letters and numbers. The first few numbers will probably be 355 (or 327, or 373, etc.) This means you do have that ratio. If you have a letter "L" stuck in those sequence of numbers, that means you also have the Ford Limited slip, or "posi" as it is often known.

Cool

Justinman- If you don't want to get dirty, you could look at the axle code on the label inside the driver's side door. 19=open,3.55;H9=LS,3.55

does anyone have the v6 out there with the 4.10's or the 4.30's with the auto tranny? will changing the gears make my 6 possibly lay a little rubber here and there. i feel as if the gears are way too high to be in the trucks.if i try to pull my boat (21 foot bay boat it acts like it has no towing power at all. well any info on my truck would be greatly appreciated and ill gladly try to help anyone else if possible

Thanks for your help guys! My truck has 3.55 open. I will be putting bigger tires on soon, so I will probably be re-gearing. Thanks again!
