Angry Rear Tank Blues

I own a '89 F-150 XLT Lariat 4x4, 302 Aod, that has the 2 tanks. I don't drive this truck that often, only on the weekends. Last night I drove the truck for awile, and had problems flipping the front tank over to the rear tank. I get the regular hum, but the engine only runs the fuel out of the lines. Truck runs fine on front tank. This truck has the 3 fuel pumps too, and yes replaced the fuel filter awile back. Anybody have any suggestions?

sounds like the valve that switches between the two tanks is bad or a bad submersed fuel pump in the rear tank.

How often do you run out of the rear tank?

I would say that, I usually fill the truck once a month(est.) about 29 gallons or so, and I would say that I drive on the rear tank for about 2 weeks. Being this a second truck, my dad sometimes drives it, to check cattle, early in the morning, and he's told me that he, can't get the truck to start on the rear tank. I figured that it probably was the selector. But I wasn't sure. Thanks for your help guys!

The switch that changes tanks is bad.Casues the pump to starve it self.I would also check rear tank pump too.
