I had a clunking sound coming from the rear of my '01 150. (with only 8,000 mi.) The sound was only present when I would start from a dead stop then go away. I took it to the dealer - of course it would not make the sound for them. I took it home and did a complete inspection myself and noticed a small amount of oil seepage from the axle seal. I went back to the dealer with this info. and sure enough the seal needed to be replaced. I think the oil was causing the parking brake to swell and bind up within the brake housing. After the dealer replaced and cleaned everything up the problem went away. But they never admitted to me that that was the problem. (it obviously was) They were probably upset that I figured it out myself and not them. Oh well, thats why I read through this site before I even think about calling my friendly local Ford dealership. Hope this helps somebody!!
