355 to 410 gears

Hello all,

Im trying to find out how changing gears from 355 with LS to 410 with LS will effect my truck. I drive a 98 f150 4x4 off road 4.6 5speed, Im trying to get better towing power and compensate for larger tires in the future.

How will it effect
-gas mileage?
-highway noise?
-rpm increase?
-over all drivability?

thanks for the info.

Thumbs up great power

I replaced my 355 to 410 I did it for quicker acceleration and it definately helped. I noticed no loss of MPG or presence of noise, at 75mph the rpms are up about 400rpm from stock.

Tony,

I went from 355 to 410 gears. My gas mileage around town is between 15 and 16 it was between 14 and 15 before the change. I noticed it go way down over 70 mph from around 18 to 15. They seem to run the RPM up about 500 RPM at most speeds. No noise increase. Love the way it drives! No more constant down shifting when I pull my boat or try to accelerate slowly. I have a 4X2 however and can't address how they will effect a 4X4. Truck really accelerates much better. Worth every cent.

I swapped to 4.10 in my 4X4 Expedition. I have a 5.4L Automatic and 32 1/2" tires. If you plan on going with alot taller tires I would consider 4.56 if you do alot of towing. Going from 3.55 to 4.10 seems like its just right in stock config. but add the taller tires and your final drive ratio is knocked right back down. Make sure you get a chip to fix the speedo and odometer. If you use a good gearset and a quality setup at install you shouldn't notice any noise, but I've had cheap gears in the past that really sing. I've noticed only slight MPG decrease on highway milage. Make sure you do the gearing math before you make your final decision.

isn't the 98 still just a nylon gear change to fix the speedo?
