Thumbs down axle leaking?

Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this, but this seemed most logical.
As I was changing my oil yesterday, I noticed something was leaking from my rear axle where it bolts to the wheel. It was leaking down the inside of the tire. I don't think it was doing it for very long since there wasn't alot of it. Any ideas? Maybe a seal? I'm calling the dealer to make an appointment to have it fixed (warranty ) Figures, since I just posted to the "who doesn't have anything wrong with their trucks?" thread...

Cool

2 possibilities: 1- rear end axle seal leaking rear-end oil, 2- brake fluid leaking from caliper or line. You should check the fluid levels in both and see if the brake pads are contaminated. You should also be able to spot the brake problem easier than the other because the parts are easier to view from underneath.

Cool

Well, the results are in. They replaced an oil seal/grease retainer. Thanks Max Mitchell.
How much oil does the rear end take? It shows that they replace 3qts oil and 1 qt additive. Does this mean I got a free change? I don't know how often you're supposed to change it, but I guess I can wait that much longer.
Thanks again.

2.6L or 5.5pts; The additive is 4oz of friction modifier, added only to those with the Trac-loc (limited slip) differentials. It comes with synthetic fluid and the service schedule calls for changing at 100,000 miles; too long in my opinion. To replace the seal they would drain the fluid when they removed the rear end cover for the repair. So, yes, new fluid. Glad it went well, happy truckin'.
