Since we're all day dreamin here, how about an 800HP 6.2 bored out to max, 460 cu in? Yep, and here it is:

While I can't say for sure, it looks like an aluminum assembly. It also looks to be NA. Imagine twin turbos......if you can.

So - you take a 6.2, cast the block from aluminum instead of iron, bore it out to 7.0, put some trick aluminum heads on it........

Switching from cast iron to aluminum will take a lot more than just dumping a different kind of molten metal into a form. The entire block will have to be reworked to account for the strength difference, heat disapation differences, harmonics etc. That's a lot of sunk cost for a limited production engine.

The elephant in the room is taking the 3.5 Ecoboost from the GT, slightly detuning it and bolting it to the new 10 speed auto or a 6 speed Tremec. That would make for a lot of power, fairly cheap and in line with the corporate direction. Make the GT350 the road racer and the GT500 the drag racer. The Mustang purists will howl about the V6 but it would make for a very fast car.

The last gt500 made 662hp. and 634 tq. Current zl1 camaro is at 650, hellcat at 707 and demon at 820 - 840.

it would take all of the gts 647hp and 550 tq to hang with the above. Not to mention that you are taking a car with a $400k price tag and dropping the same engine in a $70k car.

what they should do, turbo 5.0 or 5.2.

what makes $$$ sense is a 5.0 or 5.2 supercharged

i think a n/a 7.0 or a v-6 turbo would miss the market, at this time

Why not, they already put a detuned version in the Raptor.

i just cant see ford taking that motor and putting it in a mustang just to run similar or slower times than a zl1 camaro or the gt500 from 4 years ago.

i was looking, has anyone done track time, 0-60 or 1/4 mile times of a new ford gt.

I don't think the production version is even out yet. The snooty car rags are the first ones to get a test mule and they haven't got them yet.

Your right about that. It's highly unlikely ford will put the GT's 3.5 EB in a stang, first off it would have to be full power just to keep up with the zl1 and the housecat. Second, the GT buyers would be pissed if they paid 400K plus and you can get the same engine in a 70K mustang.

Out of the big three muscle cars out there the mustang is the lightest one, so it can have a few ponies less than the competition and keep up. The cramped-maro is the next lightest, then the challenger. Even tho it's not really a muscle car the charger is a pig and it's heavier than all of them.

Why would it bother them, they already have the engine from a $30k Flex, Exploder or Taurus?

I do agree that some force fed variant of the Coyote is the most probable powerplant. Power numbers should be enough to rough up the ZL1 but I suspect they won't really go after the Demon. It's too low for production number car to really worry about. Dodge is using it as a Halo car, Ford has the GT and some new Le Mans trophies for that.

GM does this with their ZR1/CTS-V and stuffing it into a cheaper ZL1 Camaro

z06 and ctsv are around $100k and anyone can go buy one today, zl1 is what $60k

ford gt is $450k, by invitation only. the gt500 is what $65k to $70 , anyone with the money can buy one.

once again, taking the $450k car motor, installing it in a gt500 to make less power than the previous gt500 and lossing to the camaro...why does anyone think this is a good idea?

Because the motor in the GT is largely based on the 3.5EB in the Flex/Exploder/SHO. People who buy the GT know this before they could even try to buy the car. It's not like they are getting cheated, the cheaper cars were using it for years before the GT was created.

The GT makes within 3Hp of the ZL1 but is down some on torque. I'm sure they could massage a few more ponys out of it to even things up if they wanted to.

This direction matches what Ford corporate wants to do. That's why it's a possibility.

Since we're dreaming here. Does this look familiar to anybody?

If not, try to recall the famed Roush 777 engine. This is what this pic is. Look familiar....like the one in the vid. From a well respected source, the old Hurricane engine is back in development. It's there to compete with the GM 6.2 engines. No clue what they intend to put it in but it's back! FWIW, understand, the video above is NOT a modded 6.2. It's a NEW 7.4 engine with design ques from the 6.2, hence the 6.2 based design. They are also playing with it at Roush with twin turbos. When asked about how much more HP would an EcoBoosted one of these run, all I got was a smile. But Ford and Roush are developing this critter. No clue for what platform but it should get interesting.

I know what you're saying, but they went from the 6.2 to the Gen2 EB in the Raptor, slightly detuned version compared to the Ford GT of course

For the record, I never said it was a good idea, just playing devil's advocate and entertaining the ideas in this thread

Killer

If this is the case if it's TT I'd be willing to bet they are right around the 1000hp mark

Speaking of dreaming, anybody remember this

It was a concept built by ford back in 94-95 they shoehorned into a 1994 mustang cobra and it actually ran and drove. It even made the car show circuit in the mid nineties in the ford booth. Rumor was it was punched out to 10.0L or roughly 610 CI, hp unknown. Notice the distributor less ignition.

On a related note, more info on the demon was released today. Basically a street legal drag car with a vin. 808 hp on pump gas, 9.90's with the included drag radials. Also they include a aluminum racing jack, cordless impact wrench and a pair of 4.5" wide wheels for the front, you provide the tires. They also claim if you bolt on the skinnies, and run 100 octane race gas, it makes 840 hp and runs 9.60's

They only plan on 3300 copies, no pricing yet.
