2004 F150 Radio
Hello!! I havent been around for a while. I have a 2004 F150 with the 6 dics cd changer, steering wheel controls, and the sub under the rear seat, its all stock from the factory. Last week it started to act up. Radio turns on,but 2 min later it will shut off and come back on again. There are no cds in the unit but it shows me 6 loaded. I let it go into a cycle were it shows no cds in the player. It also goes into auto mute by itself. I have taken the cable off the battery and letting to see if it will reprogram its self, same issue. Is it time for a new radio? If so what would you suggest? My truck only has 66,000 miles on it and it still looks and smells new on the inside. I never had any issues with it. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP. Russ.

It's likely due to aging caps and solder joints.
I immediately went aftermarket. Crutchfield is your best friend.
Maybe time to upgrade and do a nice in dash nav:

This is one thing I love about the older gen trucks. Possibilities are endless!

Unfortunately, right now is the like the worst time to be looking for this stuff due to the "issues" going on in the world.
And it ain't looking any better any time soon... sorry.

I found this on Amazon. The price was right. I installed them in my Transit Connect, and F-150.
You can buy the wiring harness which is made for your truck, then connect that to the radio's wire harness. After that, all that you have to do when installing it is to plug it in.

WHere did you get the wiring harness? And did it come with instructions? I'm thinking about upgrading the stereo in my daughter's truck (which used to be mine).

Everyone says the same thing, on every car forum. Go to Crutchfield. Even if you don't buy your equipment from them, that is where you start. Once you get the part numbers for the items that you need, then you can look at other sources for pricing and availability.
At the very least, you will need the basic harness and an antenna adapter. You will probably want a dash install kit.
Now is the fun part. Picking out the head unit.
