Strange damage to front Diff cover
Hello,
I noticed what I thought was an oil leak under my 2018 F-150 V8 4WD. I brought it in to the Ford dealer. They told me the front diff. cover was "damaged" but was very strange; they've never seen anything like it. I asked if it looked like some kind of vandalism (as if the metal was pried) and they did not think so. The diff cover was replaced.
The day before I noticed the leak, I had the tires rotated. I could not think of anything else that could have possibly happened. I didn't run over anything that I was aware of, was only driving on paved roads, I didn't reverse over anything that I could remember... I have no idea.
I took it to the shop that rotated the tires, showed him the photos, and they were stumped. He said they would never jack up the front of the truck by the front differential, A) because it would be a bad idea, and B) the diff is not centered and the truck wouldn't lift properly anyway. He said they would only jack up via that truck frame. He put it up on a lift so we could both look underneath and inspect. He was very cordial.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Very specific damage. I can't imagine a kicked up rock doing this. Does what the shop mgr. seem to make sense? Thank you.
