If I want to get 2 12 inch subwoofers for a 2001 extended cab f-150, what all would I need to purchase besides the 2 subs to have a working system without blowing an alternator?

An amp - not sure what a good one would be...depends on what subs they are. Again depending on the power you will be pulling, a capacitor might be needed to keep your headlight from dimming when the bass hits.

A box. - http://www.subbox.net/store/product2.html

Maybe a new head unit but you dont have to.

Ross,

Provided you keep total aftermarket equipment power consumption below 60 amps you should not have any trouble with the factory alternator. Our trucks happen to come stock with a larger alternator than most vehicles anyway to run additional add on equipment commonly used by the very people buying trucks. If I remember correctly the stock alternator on the late model F150's begin at 120-125 amp output.
