Post Supercrew Bass Options

For such a nice truck, the sub-woofer options are fairly limited in the Supercrew. Need advice. Here are the options as I see them.

1. Box under rear seat - www.subbox.net, or bazooka. Infinity basslink appears to be too big. Feedback?
2. In center console - custom enclosure as JL Audio does not make one for the Supercrew yet.
3. Expedition center console with custom enclosure - Lots of work, no offense Fedexman
4. Cut rear door openings to accept larger speakers.
5. Custom enclosure using space behind rear seat. Requires cutting plastic panel and lots of fiberglass.

So...any other options not mentioned? Need feedback on best approach. Not looking foir earth shattering reults. Just want to fill in the low end a little.

Install bed cover to protect three 18-inch subs, amps and extra batteries. While your at it, might as well install hydraulics to make that thing hop!!!! Just kidding!!!!

I liked the install in the center console, I just hate to lose the storage space in there. I actually like the idea of the Infinity Basslink - 1) Infinity makes good products from what I have heard. 2) I like the idea that the Basslink has an integrated amp. 3) Looks like it would be very easy to remove when the seat needs to be let down. I already have a storage bag for my hitch under the seat that I have to take out when I let the seat down, so having to remove the Basslink won't be much problem. I plan on getting this eventually, but my first project (as far as audio goes) will be replacing those crappy factory speakers!!! I figure just doing that will improve the bass response 100% (at the least!!) Good luck with your install!!!

Hello LightningCrew...The Basslink would be my first choice if not for the size problem. I don't believe it will fit under the rear seat. I would love to hear from a SuperCrew owner that has purchased and installed this component.

The first thing I did to the stock stereo was replace my factory speakers..see my earlier post. Bass improvement was negligible. Second, I installed a Kenwood head unit. Bass got a little better. Now I need just a little more low end and I'll be happy.

According to Crutchfield, the dimensions of this unit are 14-1/2"W x 13-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D (vertical mount); 14-1/2"W x 9-1/2"H x 15-3/16"D (horizontal mount). I've heard that this unit sounds very very good. It includes both a 10" woofer and a 10" pasive radiator so it should move quite a bit of air. I too don't believe that it'll fit under the SuperCrew seat. I'm most likely buying one of these for my Stealth Turbo so maybe I'll try to shove it under the seat to see. Most likely I'll have to use a box like the subbox.net one. Unfortunately that one is so shallow that you can't use any of the woofers in it that I have been looking at. DECHman here made a box similar to the subbox.net one (still hasn't posted the dim's yet though), maybe that one has slightly more depth. I know he fit a JL Audio sub in that one and those tend to be deep I believe.

What, do you have the newer "bigger" console, Dan? I've got the JL Stealthbox in my center console. Powered by a Rockford Fosgate 250A mounted behind my rear wall panel, there at the access door. You might also check MTX. When I was shopping, I was told they had plans to offer a stealthbox for the SCrew in the near future.

Hi Sundog7

I have the GenIII Screw, which apparently is the "taller" center console. I called JL Audio yesterday. They said they will have a Stealth box available in about 4-6 weeks. I'm confused however...you said you have one in your truck which is a GenII correct? How is this so? Is the console the same as the ones in the Extended Cab?

Personally, the Stealth box would be the best option for me. Then I could put an amp behind the rear seat. I like the idea of a subwoofer in the center of the cab.

Any other screw owners out there with subwoofer options?

You'll spend money for the JL option, Dan. But, for me, it was money very well spent. (and yes, I have the "shorter" console, just as it appears on the JL website). Like you, I didn't necessarily want to be heard from 10 blocks away, but I wanted clean, well defined, heavy bottom end. Boy, did I get it! Surely, I'm not going to win any SPL competitions if I'm stacked against the boys with the big boxes and array of 15" woofs. But, I've got excellent bottom end, and I can feel it plenty if I crank my HU.
I have frequently been able to completely drown out the Rice Boys in their hyper Maximas, rattling around at the traffic lights....enough to make them look and physically express their approval of my system with their middle digits. So, the stealthbox has got the necessary range and capacity, so long as it has the power.
I'm sure other guys have other options for our SCrews. Personally, I didn't want to give up the use of my folddown rear seats, so a box under that was out of the question for me. Maybe it's different with you.....certainly there are some mighty fine subbox's to be had.
If JL said they'd be coming out with a stealthbox that'll fit your new console, I'd say "wait for it". It really is an excellent product, and they've designed and built it extremely well.

Hello Dscrew,

Please elaborate on your sub-woofer idea. Many screw owners are faced with the same challenge. Your idea is new to this board.

Cool

The Bazooka 8" Amplified RS series (150w rms) fits under the rear seat of the Screw Perfectly. The drivers side has a brace that fits right in the groove on the hump of the Bazooka. If it is placed properly the brace holds the tube firmly when the seat back is latched. Unlatching the seat allowes the tube to be easily removed so the seat can be folded down. I highly recommend the wired remote control option. If your head unit has 4v.preamp outputs (RCA JACKS) use the preamp inputs, If not or you are using factory head unit then use the speaker level inputs. The rear seat power outlet has a 30 amp fuse. I spliced the power wire for the Bazooka to that circuit and it works well, no problems with high volume for extended periods of time. I will eventually run a #10 wire from the power terminal under the hood There are better subs, (amplified seperates) But for convenience, ease of installation, rear seat fold down access I recommend the Bazooka!

Dan the Man what I`am having done is taking most of the padding out of the seat then building a fiberglass encloser so the speakers are facing down .I will lose some comfort but I will still have about a 4in pad to sit on . I`ve seen the same thing done to a older supercab sounded great and wasn`t unconfortable. Alot of work but a lot of bass. The subs that I will be using will be 3 Kicker XPL 10`s.I have also seen a box built with 1 punch 10 facing the front sounded good but the sub is in a bad spot.I would recomend sounddomain.com become a member at no charge and serch for F-150 for ideas

Question few questions

I have only 6 inches of rear seat height. How does the 8" bazooka fit under there? Eddie preston do you know? Secondly, where is the rear seat power that can be used to power the bazooka? It sure would be nice not to have to go to the battery. I don't think the 6 inch sub would do much at all. Do you guys agree?

I've got the 6" Bazooka in mine, it fits fine but bass is "ok" at best. It's a nice clean punch but certainly will not hang with my front stage at upper volumes. I couldn't get the 8" to fit in mine but I could be dense. Already looking to replace the 6" with a custom enclosure behind the seat.....but the "fund" has a long way to go before that's a reality.

Same here FlyfishnBowhunter.

I installed the Bazooka 6 and it just did fit under the seat. As far as compairing it to the factory system, there is a 1000 times improvement, but once you turn it past half way it can't hang like a 10.

My plan is to leave the Bazooka and install a removable boxed 18 in the bed when I really want to crank it. But thats down the road and just for showing off.

The Bazooka fills the cabin just right for now and has a good entry price.

Just finished installing 2 Rockford 10" in a box behind the rear seat. A little finicky but well worth the effort. I just cant bring myself to cut the factory panel so I am having a cover made which will replace it and cover the sub box. I will try to post some pics when the cover is done.
